Clean, sort and compare text lists
Clean a list with one item per line and review every change.
First remove unwanted spaces and duplicate lines, then sort if needed and compare with the original. Each step has a separate effect: sorting does not remove duplicates, and comparison does not change either text.
Prepare a usable list
Put each entry on its own line. A comma-separated CSV with quoting is different: use CSV ↔ JSON for that. The line sorter does not understand related multiline records.
Keep the original text separately. If leading spaces matter, such as indentation in code, disable edge trimming.
Remove duplicates with explicit rules
For apple, pear, apple on three lines, the first apple is kept. Other entries remain in their original order. Empty lines and spaces at line edges can be handled separately.
Ignoring case can make Apple and apple equivalent. The tool-page language determines that conversion; Turkish treats I, ı, İ and i differently from German.
Natural or alphabetical sorting?
Natural sorting puts File2 before File10 because digit sequences are compared as numeric groups. It is not a numeric calculator for decimal amounts or mixed currencies. Choose language rules appropriate to your entries.
Sorting keeps duplicates. Equivalent entries retain their previous order. To get a unique list, explicitly remove duplicates before or after sorting.
Review changes
Paste the original on the left and the cleaned version on the right in Compare texts. Plus and green mark added lines; minus and red mark removed lines. A moved line may appear as a removal and an addition.
Comparison works by line and allows 1,000 lines per text. It does not judge which version is better in meaning. Download TXT if you need the result after closing the page.
