JPG, PNG or WebP: which format should you use?
Choose an image format based on transparency, destination and file size, with practical ToolMint settings and limits.
In ToolMint, choose JPG when you need an image without transparency. PNG suits transparent graphics without lossy image compression. WebP offers transparency and adjustable quality when your destination and browser support it. Compare the actual output: changing formats does not automatically make a file smaller.
What does each setting do?

Example: a transparent logo for a JPG upload field
- Open Convert images and select the PNG logo.
- Choose JPG and a background colour such as white.
- Start with quality 90, convert and download.
- Check edges and small text in the downloaded image. Adjust quality and export again if needed.
The converter preserves width and height. For smaller dimensions, use Resize images.
Why might the file become larger?
An already compressed JPG can take much more space as PNG. Higher quality can also increase file size. ToolMint shows input and output sizes; it does not promise a fixed compression ratio. If an upload has a size limit, combine smaller pixel dimensions with suitable JPG or WebP quality and check the result.
Converter limits
One file, at most 50 MB, 40 megapixels and 12,000 pixels per edge. Inputs: JPG/JPEG, PNG and WebP. Animation and metadata are not preserved; the converter is not an archival tool for unchanged originals. Converting an opaque JPG cannot restore transparency. If the browser cannot export WebP, ToolMint reports an error instead of labelling PNG output as WebP.
